What we know about the Half Moon Bay suspect
Half Moon Bay, California (cron) – Seven people were killed in a shooting at Half Moon Bay on Monday. His Chunli Zhao, a 67-year-old Half Moon Bay resident, was identified as a suspect and taken into custody.
Little is known about Zhao at this time. Authorities said they were still identifying the motive behind the shooting.
Zhao was arrested in the Sheriff’s Half Moon Bay substation parking lot more than two hours after the shooting. When police were searching his Maroon SUV, a deputy officer found it in the substation parking lot.
Zhao was taken into custody without incident and a semi-automatic pistol, believed to have been used in the shooting, was found in his car. San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus speculated that Cho went to the police station to turn himself in, but said it had not been confirmed.
The shootings occurred at two agricultural facilities on the outskirts of the city. According to the Corpus, Zhao is believed to have worked in one of the companies. San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Chairman Dave Pine described him as a “disgruntled worker.”
According to the Corpus, Zhao is believed to be a resident of Half Moon Bay and has a spouse.
At this point he is believed to have acted alone. A motive for the filming has not been established. In the video shot by KRON, Zhao wears a vest over a red sweater, blue jeans, and a white baseball cap.
Corpus said the sheriff’s office is working with the district attorney’s office to question Mr. Cho. Police said he is cooperating fully with them. Authorities will publish more information as it becomes available.
