Utility pole crashes through windshield on Florida interstate, truck driver uninjured | WGN Radio 720
Tampa, Florida (WFLA) – A semi-truck driver was miraculously unharmed after two utility poles ran through the cab of his truck on Friday morning.
The accident on Interstate 275 in Tampa occurred around 10:30 am.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 33-year-old driver of the truck reported seeing the car parked on the shoulder outside the highway. The “phantom car,” as the Florida Highway Patrol called it, veered into the right lane and blocked him, the driver said.
The driver then hit the brakes so hard that two utility poles broke free from the trailer’s restraints and crashed through the truck’s cab. Aerial footage showed the pole sticking out of both the windshield and rear glass.
According to highway patrols, the driver was somehow unharmed.
The utility pole was made of metal and concrete and was owned by Duke Energy, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Each pole weighed him 5,467 pounds.
Parts of 1-275 Southbound were temporarily closed Friday after the incident. The lane was reopened later that day.
