BERLIN (AP) — German trade unions called on workers at seven of the country’s airports to go on strike on Friday and push for wage increases to curb inflation.
Verdi said Wednesday that a one-day strike by civil aviation security and ground staff would affect airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hannover and Bremen.
Frankfurt is Germany’s largest airport and a major hub for intercontinental travel. A strike in Munich could affect arrivals at the annual Munich Security Conference, which takes place from Friday to Sunday.
The union is demanding a wage increase of 10.5%, or at least €500 ($536), to combat the effects of high inflation that its members have endured.
