Three Illinois colleges file intent to strike over pay hikes

CHICAGO — Three colleges in Illinois are preparing for a possible strike involving educators and staff.

The University of Illinois Local 4100 faculty unions at Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University and Chicago State University have announced their intention to strike after what they called “minimal progress” at the negotiating table.

Teachers and staff at Eastern Illinois University are set to leave on April 6 if the two sides cannot come to an agreement over payment.

Faculty members at Governors State University and Chicago State University in the southern suburbs also voted to strike last Friday.

The earliest strike dates for GSU and CSU are April 7 and April 3 respectively.
