The viral ‘hot girl walk’ fitness trend explained and tips to do it yourself
November 2020, Mia Lind As a stressed-out college senior during a pandemic, I was looking for a way to get my body out of my head. Little did she know that the walking habit she created for herself, called her “hot girl walk,” would become a TikTok fitness sensation.
Since posting her first video of her walk on social media apps in January 2021, the hashtag #hotgirlwalk has been viewed more than 641 million times, sending Lind the message that her walk has changed lives I say.
What exactly is a “hot girl walk”? Lind told CBS News that she was on a four-mile (4-mile) outdoor mindfulness walk, during which she thought about three things.

“And finally, of course, how hot are you,” Lind laughs.
At least that’s the beginning, the creators say. But the concept is adaptable to each person. For example, in Lind’s eyes, it doesn’t have to be outdoors or four miles from her to be considered a hot girl walk.
“It’s really all about building confidence and taking time for yourself,” she explains. “So whatever is most convenient for you.”
Lind says the overall goal of the Hot Girl Walk was to make fitness more accessible.
“My generation thinks that walking, or at least doing that, isn’t really a valid form of exercise,” she says, noting that she often sees running videos and YouTube ab workouts online. mentioned as a thing. “For those just starting out, it can be really scary, but walking is a very easy exercise. You can start at any fitness level (and) it’s completely free.”

At a meetup she hosted in Malibu, the 24-year-old met not only people in her own demographic, but also middle-aged parents, seniors, and those in between.
Some of the popular? It is not only about physical health, but also about mental health.
Before starting the walk, Lind says she was afraid to leave her thoughts alone.
“I had a lot of growing negative monologues during the pandemic,” she explains.
Through the walk, however, Lind found significant changes in both her physical and mental health, including increased confidence and fitness levels, and less anxiety and negative thoughts. As a thyme worker, it also helps her relieve stress.

Get out there: According to Lind, the hardest part is getting started, but blasting a fun playlist can help keep you motivated.
Comfortable dress: Quality shoes and thick socks are a game changer, she says.
All you can do is: Lind says it takes about an hour and 20 minutes to walk the four miles. But you can also split it up if it fits your schedule.
“You can run three miles just by going out for 20 minutes three times a day,” she says. “Don’t push yourself too hard. Start small and see how far you can go.”
safely: Lind suggests altering your walk route, letting a buddy know when you’re heading out, or keeping personal safety gear with you.
“You can’t be hot if you’re not safe,” she adds.
