Rock Valley University certificate holders can now walk to graduation

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — About 70 Rock Valley University students crossed the stage on Thursday to mark the first time a certificate holder was recognized for the honor.

Graduation ceremonies are usually held for students who obtain diplomas, but due to financial and schedule constraints, many students choose to obtain diplomas instead.

Welding instructor Bill Isham says it’s also important to recognize these students.

“I didn’t get the ceremony, so I just graduated and went straight to work,” said Isham. “It’s kind of a relief and kind of a break for all of us who haven’t experienced this same kind of ritual.”

Over 600 students earned their certificates from Rock Valley College this year.
