Britain and the world said their final goodbyes to Queen Elizabeth II at Monday’s state funeral, bringing together presidents, kings, princes and prime ministers.

Crowds gathered on the streets of London to honor the monarch whose 70 years of reign defined an era.

In a country known for its glitz and pomp, the first state funeral since Winston Churchill’s funeral was spectacular. Royal Navy sailors pulled a carriage carrying Elizabeth’s coffin to Westminster Abbey. Charles III and his sons Princes William and Harry walked in the background to the music of the pipe blowers. Paul Bearer then carried her coffin to the monastery.

About 2,000 people, from world leaders to health workers, gathered to mourn her. Her funeral ended with a two-minute silence across the UK.

Monday was declared a public holiday in honor of Elizabeth, who died on September 8.
