Over 20 shots at an Alabama birthday party

Dadeville, Alabama (WRBL– More than 20 people were injured in a shooting at a celebration in Alabama on Saturday night, law enforcement said.

Witnesses said the shooting took place at a 16th birthday party at the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio in downtown Dadeville.

Investigators told Nexstar’s WRBL that the shooting was suspected to have been caused by an altercation around 10:30 pm.

The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No details about suspects or motives have yet been released by authorities.

Ten hours after the shooting, crime scene tapes still surrounded the dance studio. A tarp was draped over the glass front door, and I could see inside the white sheets that covered the floor. Several yellow police placards littered the sidewalk in front.

Several law enforcement agencies were responding to and investigating the incident, including the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, the Dadeville Police Department, and the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators have not released an official statement as of Sunday morning.

The shooting has left the small town reeling, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact the Dadeville Police Department or the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office.
