Chicago – The new pro team will play their first home game on Sunday at 1pm.
Introducing Major League Rugby to Chicago will be something special for the many who have worked so hard to make this happen over the last few months.
Chicago Hounds co-founder, CEO and general manager James English said of Sunday’s game against the Utah Warriors, “It’s going to be great for a lot of people.” I have been working.”
They have also been working very quickly to get their 12th franchise on track in MLR by the end of 2022/early this year. The franchise was officially introduced at a press conference in November, at which time English teamed up with other staff members on the field to create a staff for the matter.
On February 18, just over three months after the team’s announcement, the team played its first game in Leesburg, Virginia against Old Glory DC, losing 42-27.
“We’ve done this in a short runway, but we have a great group of players, a lot of experience. There’s a lot of American talent on the team, and there’s also foreign talent. “It wasn’t easy, but it was easy enough that anyone could do it. If there’s one place you can do it anywhere, it’s Chicago.”
“So to have this team on the field is a bold statement for us and I think we’re going to see a really bold performance.”
This is a good way for this new team to introduce themselves not just to the Hounds, but to an audience unfamiliar with the sport itself. I hope that
English said, “We want a fan experience that makes people want to come back so they can truly appreciate rugby’s exciting game, athleticism, speed of movement and great form of entertainment.” I think it will be a unique fan experience, the game itself has the music and the fanfest, but most importantly, as a rugby organization, we can provide Chicago with a winning team.
“We want to see a group of fans playing great and a team getting a ‘W’ on the field. “
How was your interest so far?
“There’s a lot of excitement,” said English. “I hope it continues and we can keep that momentum going in this first game and the next four in March.”
