(The Hill) – Virginia high schools canceled all activities this weekend after nearly half of their students were absent due to flu-like illnesses.
“Due to the high number of student and staff illnesses reported this week, all Stafford High School activities and track and field events scheduled through Sunday, October 23 have been cancelled,” a Stafford High School official said. is writing Facebook Friday account.
The school said it will track disease levels over the weekend and reassess conditions on Monday.

NBC 4 Washington reported Friday that about 1,000 students were absent from Stafford High School just outside Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The total number of students enrolled at Stafford High School is about 2,100, officials told NBC.
A spokeswoman said students and some staff were suffering from flu-like symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms.
Officials and the Virginia Department of Health are working together to investigate the underlying cause of the illness.
