Man found dead in Austin car fire: police

CHICAGO — A man was found dead in a car that caught fire overnight in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.

Police said they found a burning car in an alley near 5,400 blocks of West Jackson Boulevard. Police said they found an unidentified man in the driver’s seat and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Passengers in the car told police they were driving south down an alley when they heard gunshots and the driver hesitated and hit a utility pole.

The vehicle then caught fire and passengers were able to exit the vehicle before it caught fire.

No one is currently in custody and police are investigating the incident.
