Driver drowns in underwear in Maine lake when his car crashed and sank According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, police are in pursuit.
The 20-year-old driver fled the car, swam to shore and was immediately arrested, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
It happened on Sunday, September 18, at Wilson Lake near the state’s New Hampshire border. The lake is located about 45 miles southwest of Portland.
“The York County Sheriff’s Office has received reports that someone is attempting to break into a residence on Langley Shores Drive in Acton,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Specifically, a homeowner observed at a ring doorbell was attempting to gain access to a home that was vacant at the time by a person who appeared to be intoxicated and wearing only underwear.”
The man left before the deputies arrived. But his car was found “some time later” in another part of Acton, officials said.
“The sheriff turned the cruiser around and tried to stop the vehicle, but it took off at high speed,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Shortly after the vehicle struck Wilson Lake, Acton. The operator was … freed from the vehicle, swam to shore and taken into custody.”
Authorities said the driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and then “summoned on suspicion of evading police and other traffic-related charges.”
