CPD dive team exploring the waters of Diversea Harbor

CHICAGO — Chicago police set up a perimeter around Diversea Harbor on Tuesday afternoon and deployed a diving team to search waters in the area.

CPD has not confirmed whether their activities are related. Missing Northwestern University PhD Student Peter Salvinobut police have been investigating the port since around 3:30 p.m.

According to family members, Salvino’s cell phone was last seen near Diversea Harbor.

“He’s an incredible man,” Scotty Gruszka, Salvino’s brother-in-law, said in an interview with Nexstar’s NewsNation. “He’s just like many of us. He’s an unhappy Bears and White Sox fan. We suffer together…we miss him. We’ve got him home.” I’m praying for a Christmas miracle to bring home.”

Salvino is a PhD candidate in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program at Northwestern University. Police said he was 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighed about 190 pounds, and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and maroon pants.
