Chicago shootings today: 1 dead, 1 injured in shootings near 47 Brighton Park and Walgreens in Western, Chicago officials say

Chicago (WLS) — One person was killed and another injured in a shooting Monday afternoon on Chicago’s Southwest Side, fire officials said.

The shooting occurred outside a Walgreens near West 47th Street and Southwestern Avenue in the city’s Brighton Park district.

A man of unknown age was on the sidewalk just before 5 p.m. when a car pulled up and someone inside pulled out a gun and opened fire, according to Chicago police.

The victim suffered blows to his shoulder and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.

A spokeswoman for the Chicago Fire Department said another person was taken to a local hospital and is in good condition, but police have no information on whether that individual was involved in the incident.

Detective Area One is investigating. No further information has been released.
