Business partners kill each other in dispute: Florida cops
Two business partners shot each other dead due to an “ongoing dispute,” according to the Florida Sheriff’s Office.
Partners Akade Bennett (31) and Xavier Figueroa (39) Died around 3:10 p.m. Dec. 29 in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting occurred outside a business located off U.S. Route 92 in northeast Lakeland.The westbound lane of the highway was temporarily closed pending an investigation.
The sheriff’s office did not disclose the name of the business or whether it was the same one owned by Bennett and Figueroa.
A Google Maps search of the area shows Martinez Auto Solutions, LLC, and Service on Site of Central Florida, Inc at the address where the shooting occurred. Neither Bennett nor Figueroa are listed as registered agents or officers of either business, according to a Florida State Department investigation.
The sheriff’s office did not respond to questions about the type of business Bennett and Figueroa own or the nature of their dispute.
Figueroa died at the scene of the shooting, and Bennett died of gunshot wounds after trying to flee in his truck, the sheriff’s office said.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement, “This was an avoidable tragedy resulting from disagreements between business partners.” These men are still alive today and their families would not be sad if they had been able to resolve their differences with courtesy.”
No obituary for the man was found online.
Lakeland is about 35 miles northeast of Tampa. Both men were from Kissimmee, about 20 miles south of Orlando.
