Washington DC (WHNT) — More than 60 prepared meat products sold by an Illinois company have been recalled for possible Listeria contamination.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on saturday 64 products sold by Behrmann Meat and Processing, Inc. are affected by the recall.

More products may be added in the near future, FSIS said, and encourages customers to check back often for updates.

Affected products that may be contaminated with Listeria will display the establishment number “EST 20917” inside the USDA inspection mark.

Listeria monocytogenes is the bacterium that causes listeriosis, a serious infection. It can also cause common food poisoning symptoms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeriosis affects about 1,600 people each year and causes about 260 deaths. Pregnant women and their newborns, adults over the age of 65, and people with weakened immune systems are most likely to get sick.

Although there have been no confirmed reports of illness or side effects from eating the products, FSIS urges anyone with affected products to throw them away or return them from where they were purchased. .
