Thousands of hot tubs have been recalled because they can get dangerously hot. WGN Radio 720

Chino, California (WXIN) — Over 23,000 hot tubs have been recalled because their temperature sensors may not reflect the true heat of the water.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that the Jacuzzi J-200, J-300, J-400, and J-500 Collection hot tubs and the Sundance Spa 680, 780, 880, and 980 Series Spas are included in the recall. said to be included. Hot Tubs were sold by authorized Sundance Spa or Jacuzzi Hot Tub Dealers nationwide from July 2021 through December 2022.

The recall began after the company received 185 reports of inaccurate temperature readings.

One report from the owner of Jacuzzi J-355 said their hot tub marked 101 degrees Fahrenheit, yet felt a burning sensation as soon as you stepped in it. A thermometer in the kitchen indicated that the water was actually 126 degrees Fahrenheit.

Another report from a Sundance Spa 780 Series owner said the water felt very hot even though the unit was set at 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Tests have shown that the water is actually 107 degrees Fahrenheit.

For decades, the CPSC has warned people about the dangers of hot hot tubs. In a 1979 news release, the commission stated that hot tub water temperatures should not exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the CPSC, immersion in water above 102 degrees Fahrenheit can damage the fetus during the first three months of pregnancy, resulting in a brain-damaged or deformed child. That’s why we recommend that pregnant women stick to her 100-degree maximum rule.

Sundance Spas, Inc., which also does business as a Jacuzzi Hot Tub, is committed to repairing hot tubs. We encourage owners to use an external thermometer to ensure the water temperature does not exceed 104 degrees.
