Rockford tow truck driver warns of winter storm danger

ROCKFORD, IL (WTVO) — Bill Wishard, President of A to Z Towing, is a third generation tow truck driver. He has been helping motorists for his 24 years. With frigid temperatures blowing into the Rockford area this weekend, Wishard stressed the importance of being prepared if things get stuck.

“It’s going to be 9 degrees or below tonight,” he said Thursday.[People] Do not go out on the road, especially since the wind is blowing. Very dangerous for everyone. ”

If you fall in a ditch or your car breaks down, Wishard says it will take some time for a tow truck to arrive. He said it’s important for drivers to keep some essentials in their vehicles.

“Make sure you have a coat, a blanket, a first aid kit and a cell phone that is always charged. Don’t leave the battery dead,” he said.

If you must drive, it’s important to maintain a safe following distance between you and other vehicles, Mr Wishard also said. And he added that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let his friends and family know where they were going and when they should get there.

“People are running around now. There have been many accidents, many bad accidents. So it’s not enough. Please slow down a bit,” he said. “I need to be careful where I go so I can see my family this weekend.”
