Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates sells for $25,000 — no chocolate inside

(WXIN) – From Forrest to Ripley, the iconic box of chocolates has a new owner.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! A box of chocolates from the 1994 film Forrest Gump has been purchased at auction for $25,000, the company said in a release.

As Tom Hanks famously said in his Academy Award-winning film, “My mother always said, ‘Life is like a box of chocolates.’ In this case, what does Ripley’s get?” You know exactly what you get, and it’s not chocolate.

Instead, the box is filled with sand.

“This was so that Hanks could rest properly on his lap during filming. There’s something wrong with that,” Ripley explained.

The box has a Hanks signature and is in near mint condition.

In this film, Forrest Gump tells the story of his life while carrying a box (and eating a fair amount of chocolate) and waiting for the bus to reunite with his childhood sweetheart, Jenny.

Ripley’s has not revealed which of its 29 museums will house the props. Known as ‘auditoriums’, museums around the world house unique artifacts, pop culture memorabilia and medical quirky collections.

Ripley’s recent acquisitions include the double-sided lightsaber used by Darth Maul in “Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace” and Prince’s signature purple coat worn during his “Purple Rain” stage performance. .
