NASCAR Chicago Street Race has ended, but some streets near Grant Park are still closed

Some streets around Grant Park, which were due to reopen by Monday, remain closed as staff continue to clear buildings. NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race.

Ida B. Wells from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive and Columbus from Jackson Drive to Roosevelt Road remain closed to traffic.Columbus and Wells were both scheduled will resume on monday according to the NASCAR schedule.

Workers were seen removing the large observatory at Columbus and Ida B. Wells Monday afternoon. Heavy trucks, heavy equipment and empty pallets were still on the road.

Balbo Drive remained closed from Michigan Avenue to Dusable Lake Shore Drive. It was scheduled to reopen on Thursday, but a spokesperson for the Chicago Department of Transportation said the Balbo will remain closed as crews begin loading equipment onto Lollapalooza.

A spokesperson said Columbus will be open in both directions by midnight. CDOT said the westbound Ida B. Wells will also open before midnight, while the eastbound lane will open before midnight on Tuesday.

Jackson Drive from Michigan Avenue to Dusable Lake Shore Drive was also closed, but is now open.

Other major roads closed for the race, Michigan Avenue, Roosevelt Road, and Dusable Lake Shore Drive around the park, were also opened.

Grant Park will begin prepping on July 21st and will be closed again for Lollapalooza, which opens on August 3rd.
