Woman shot and detained man at CTA Red Line

CHICAGO — A woman is in police custody on suspicion of shooting a man inside a train Saturday night on the CTA’s red line, according to Chicago police.

Police said they received a call around 8:04 p.m. with a call that someone had been shot in Block 1100 of South State Street.

Initial investigations revealed that a 35-year-old man had been on the train and had been arguing with a 37-year-old woman. The woman then took out her gun and opened fire, shooting the man in the left arm and right hip.

The woman fled the platform and was later taken into police custody at Block 1100 South Wabash Avenue, police said.

It is unknown at this time what the victim’s condition is.

A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Area 3 detectives continue to investigate the case.
