— Jessica Chastain plays an overworked ICU nurse and single mother in the new Netflix movie The Good Nurse. She begins to suspect her new colleague Charlie, played by Eddie Redmayne, after the patient’s death. Danish filmmaker Tobias Lindholm has directed the thriller, which will be streamed Wednesday, based on the script 1917 and The Last Night in Soho screenwriter Krysty Wilson Cairns. For something more family-friendly, Netflix has also released a stop-motion animated picture of him, “Wendell & Wild,” featuring the voices of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as their demon brothers. It’s the original idea of director Henry Selick, who directed spooky, children’s classics The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. ‘Wendell & Wild’ will begin streaming on his October 28th.
The first is “Pearl,” a technicolor horror prequel from Ti West, starring Mia Goth as a farm girl in a pandemic-plagued Texas town in 1918, dreaming of movie stardom. She pisses her off a little. There are references to everything from “Singin’ in the Rain” to “The Wizard of Oz,” but with a sinister, murderous edge. Ahead of its premiere at this fall’s Venice Film Festival, West said, “For lack of a better term, I became interested in making a children’s film with a crazier adult story.” and ends with an epic monologue almost in one take.
— Also coming to VOD on Tuesday is The Barbarian, a low-budget indie horror movie starring Justin Long. In “The Barbarian,” Long’s character, a television actor facing sexual misconduct allegations, is inadvertently double-booked with a stranger (“It’s” Bill Skarsgård) at his Airbnb in the spooky Detroit area. It stars Georgina Campbell as a woman who has Writer-director Zach Cregger pitched every studio that’s made horror in the last 15 years a film with an unconventional structure that essentially resets in the middle, and everyone said no. To date, over $40 million has been made against a production budget of $4 million.

— Breakout Country Artist of the Year Rainie Wilson’s new studio album is out Friday and features 14 songs. Singles from ‘Bell Bottom Country’ include the sweet first love songs ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ and ‘Heart Like a Truck’, whose lyrics read: gasoline. “Wilson won the Academy of Country Music’s Best New Female Artist of the Year award in 2021 and last year won the coveted Song of the Year award for her smash hit single “Things a Man Oughta Know.” was awarded.
— It’s time to celebrate garbage. The new compilation, called ‘Anthology’, will be available from Friday on major online streaming platforms, as well as double transparent yellow vinyl and his two CD editions. Includes hits “Stupid Girl,” “I Think I’m Paranoid,” “Why Do You Love Me,” and “Only Happy When It Rains.” Among the 35 songs is a rare recording called “Witness to Your Love”. — “Till,” director Chinonye Chukwu’s factual account of Emmett Till’s mother’s quest for justice, was a powerful film, made all the more moving by its score. Composed, orchestrated and conducted by Abel Korzenevsky, the piece opens Friday and features moving strings, dark pulses and thrilling sequences. — Get into the Halloween mood with Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. This is an anthology created by an Oscar-winning filmmaker that aims to challenge “traditional” expectations of horror. The eight stories include “The Autopsy,” based on a short story by Michael Shay and starring F. Murray’s Abraham, Grinterman, and Luke Roberts. The HP Lovecraft-based Dream of the Witch’s House starring Rupert Grint and Ismael Cruz Cordova and two episodes starring Tim Blake Nelson and Elpidia Carrillo based on del Toro’s original story “Lot 36” which is one of them. Episodes are released daily in pairs from Tuesday to Friday.
— “Putin Attacks Ukraine: A Chronicle of War Crimes,” which premieres Tuesday on PBS’s “Front Lines” (check your local list), chronicles Russia’s war on Ukraine and holding Russia accountable for its actions. It details the difficulty of inflicting. This documentary is part of a joint effort between Frontline and AP that includes collecting, examining and cataloging potential war crimes, and co-publishing stories and videos from AP and Frontline war coverage. will be The joint initiative, which includes the War Crimes Watch Ukraine interactive experience, has documented more than 500 cases of him, including potential war crimes, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February.
