MONY, Illinois — More than 30 vehicles were robbed in the parking lot of Amazon’s warehouse facility outside Chicago since mid-December.
Since Dec. 19, Mony Police Chief Scott Corner told WGN News that his department has been investigating 33 car robberies at Amazon’s fulfillment center on the 6600 block of West Mony Manhattan Road. .
The facility was hit hard on two particular nights. On December 30th he had 10 vehicle thefts and on January 26th he had 9 vehicle thefts.
Police said the robberies all happened between 5pm and 5am.
A 20-year-old employee recently bought his first car with his own money. She wasn’t sure exactly when it happened, but she had her new car window smashed when she got out of her shift on Friday.
“It was the first car I bought myself,” she said. “I was devastated when that happened. Now I’m going to have my parents drop me off.”
Corner told WGN News that he is working with Amazon officials to acquire video surveillance. Koerner said Amazon has increased the number of security guards working on the premises and the Monee police are conducting additional patrols.
The following red SUVs have been used in the last three thefts.
