Virginia Beach, Virginia (Wavy) — Authorities are investigating after a small noose-shaped rope was found in a tree at Newtown Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, earlier this week.
In a message to the school community, Virginia Beach Superintendent Aaron Spence said, “We are horrified by what we perceive to be racially motivated acts and that the VBCPS will not tolerate hateful conduct of any kind. can assure the community that “We will fully support and work with our law enforcement partners to ensure this matter is thoroughly investigated.”
A school district spokeswoman said the rope was found by staff on Tuesday.
In addition to the police, the school district’s Department of Public Safety and Crisis Management is also investigating the matter and has stepped up patrols at schools.
