Ashburn, Virginia (AP) Washington released long-time kicker Dustin Hopkins on Wednesday and signed with Chris Brewitt instead.
Hopkins was in the team for the seventh season, but seemed to have been in a hot seat with Ron Rivera for a few weeks. He lost to Kansas City Chiefs last weekend and missed a 42-yard field goal attempt.
This was only a second field goal missed in 14 attempts this season, but Hopkins missed another two points in Atlanta on October 3rd.
Bluewitt signed a practice team this week after trying with other kickers. The 26-year-old is from the Washington area, where she played at the University of Pittsburgh and hasn’t played in NFL games yet.
Washington will visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
