Juneteenth Celebrations Begin in Chicago’s Pullman District

CHICAGO — Residents of the city’s Pullman neighborhood celebrate Juneteen’s re-commitment to the community all day long.

Monday’s celebrations kicked off with an unconventional parade. Many people drove caravans of cars through residential neighborhoods, encouraging residents to join Juneteen’s celebrations.

The parade then continued to block parties along 104th Street and Corliss Street. This year’s theme is “Paint the Food Orange”.

The orange color represents the event’s mission of anti-gun violence and violence prevention.

Additionally, over 500 youth have registered for basketball tournaments and championship games.
