Chicago (CBS)- The suspect was detained late Thursday night after two people were killed and seven were injured in a downtown shooting.

CBS 2 investigators have confirmed the suspect’s name, but have not disclosed it until he was charged. Police said someone handed him a gun, a glock attached to shoot multiple bullets, and he began firing at the crowd. The man has a criminal record of the past.

Police said the shootings took place outside McDonald’s on Chicago Avenue and State Street after 10:40 pm. The McDonald’s window shattered during the shoot. The restaurant is currently closed.

The videos on social media show the moment when more than 20 bullets were blown into the crowd, some hidden behind a bus stop. Others can be seen lying on the sidewalk nearby and injured.

A total of nine people were shot dead. Two of the victims died, police said.

Anthony Allen, 31, died at Stroger Hospital about an hour after the shooting. He was shot at the bottom of his back, officials said.

His two fathers, Antonio Wade, 30, died late Thursday at Northwestern Hospital after being shot in the chest.

One of the victims was seriously injured. The rest are in good condition.

After the shooting, the shooter hit the nearby Red Line subway and went down the tunnel. There he was arrested and his gun was recovered. The woman was seriously injured when she came into contact with an electrified third rail on the railroad track while pursuing to arrest the suspect.

“This is a gun crisis,” Sapt said. David Brown again called on prosecutors and judges to put the suspected gun violence in jail until trial.
