Remains of 47-year-old Virginia teen missing identified

Fairfax County, Virginia (WDVM) – Police have confirmed that a human remains found in Virginia belonged to a teenager who went missing in 1975.

Patricia Agnes Gildawy, also known as “Chobi,” was 17 years old when she went missing. Decades later, on September 27, 2001, construction workers found Gildawi’s body and clothes near the ditch behind the McLean apartment complex. The chief coroner’s office determined the person died of a gunshot wound to her head.

Earlier this year, the cold case detectives began working with Othram, Inc., which provides advanced DNA testing and forensic-level genome sequencing. Osram said the deceased was white, unlike first thought. The tests also identified half-sisters. Her detectives found her and she shared Guildwee’s story with them.

Gildawie was born in France in February 1958 and came to the United States when she was eight months old. In the early 1970s she moved to Fairfax.

Before Gildawie’s disappearance, she dated an older man who worked at an upholstery store near the intersection of Church Street and Lawyers Road in Vienna, Virginia. Last seen on February 8, 1975, Gildawie was driving her Eldorado, a white Cadillac with a red interior.

Detectives said they were still investigating the case with new information provided by Gildawy’s family.

“Identifying this young woman unlocks a mystery that spans over 47 years,” said Ed O’Carroll, director of the Serious Crimes and Cyber ​​and Forensics Service. “Our community should take comfort in knowing that our detectives will never stop investigating these cases. I have had the opportunity to bring comfort to my long-suffering family.”
