Hosea Sanders of ABC7 talked to Jack C. Newell about how the place where he grew up plays a leading role in this holiday story of starting over under mistletoe.
Felicity is a talented bakery from a small town where both new business and engagement have failed. But a trip home for the holidays is trying to change it all!
Sanders: Was this story already set in Chicago or did you bring it here?

New Well: No, it was actually set up and created for Chicago. It was then shot in Long Grove, Illinois, for the “built-up” town of Aspen Grove. The beauty of the town is supposed to be this magical farm, like the countryside, but it also feels like a Christmas town. Long gloves had it and it was great.
Newell grew up in Glen Ellyn, attended Glenbard South and Columbia University, and is part of the Second City team.
Sanders: Why did you decide to stay here in Chicago for a career?
New Well: The advantage of being in Chicago as opposed to other places is that you can tell a story and be less involved in all “Hollywood” so you can connect with something unique. You can do a little more of yourself here while making the movies that people want to watch. It’s amazing to be an artist and filmmaker and be able to live in Chicago. There is no same day. Always appearing, being fully present and trying to get involved challenges you. It’s very lucky, I feel very lucky that it can be done in my time.
