Chicago (WLS)-People flew from around the world to dine at Charlie Trotter’s legendary restaurant. Rebecca Harpan’s documentary from the North Shore, “Love Charlie: The Rise and Fall of Chef Charlie Trotter”.

“It was a dream come true to be able to go back to Chicago and make a movie about my hometown and my true hometown hero,” Hapern said.

Halpan believes that Chicago is an essential part of Trotter’s story.

“Charlie Trotter was the right person at the right place, at the right time to eat. I think Chicago has a history of having these visionary people,” she says. I did. “In basketball, in Chicago for sports, Michael Jordan, in the media, Oprah Winfrey in the 90’s, and in food, Charlie Trotter. Charlie really influenced many chefs and sorts all over the country and around the world. Gave. Changed the course of food history. “

Trotter also constantly wrote letters and postcards, and they talked about his destiny.

“It was as if Charlie Trotter wrote his life story before he lied,” Halpren said. “He said,’Have you ever felt like you’re in your movie?'”

“At the end of the restaurant life, the 25 years of relentless pursuit of excellence he sought really consumed him,” she added. “He died a year after the restaurant closed after a series of very common embarrassing situations, all symbolizing the fact that chef Charlie Trotter lost contact with himself. I think you are doing it. “

Halpan sees the movie itself as a love letter in many ways.

“In many ways, this movie is the last letter to all of us,’Love, Charlie’, and that’s why we call it it,” she said.

“Love, Charlie” will make its red carpet debut on Monday night at AMC River East, with many local celebrities attending. There will be a screening next Friday as well.

The film will run until the end of the Chicago International Food Festival on October 24th next week.
