Body of former Olympic skier found at Iron County Correctional Facility

Cedar City, Utah (KTVX) – A former Olympic skier was found dead in a Utah correctional facility Wednesday morning.

Authorities found Jeremy Nobis, 52, alone and unresponsive at the Iron County Correctional Facility in Cedar City on April 19, according to the Iron/Garfield/Beaver/Kane Critical Incident Task Forces.

A task force official said there was no suspicion of wrongdoing and the incident is still under investigation.

Nobis was convicted of DUI on March 7, a third-degree felony, according to court documents. His sentencing hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, April 25th.

US Ski & Snowboard (USSS) staff extend their condolences to Nobis’ family and friends.

Nobis joined the United States Alpine Ski Team in the late 1980s, according to the USSS. He went on to claim his two World Junior Championships in 1988 and 1989. Nobis was a giant at the 1994 Winter Olympics where he finished ninth in the slalom.

Reportedly, Nobis later turned to big mountain skiing and became known as an “icon” for tackling the toughest mountains in the world. Nobis’ brother, Shannon Nobis, also skied with him at the 1994 Winter Olympics for the United States Alpine Ski Team.

according to ski magazine, Nobis had a total of four DUI charges on record. He led the police in pursuit of him twice. He was arrested again in Park City, Utah in 2006 and again in Jackson, Wyoming in 2011. He was arrested on December 8, 2022 in Blaine County, Idaho, on his two outstanding warrants from Mesa County and Iron County, Colorado. Utah.
