Houston (AP) —Rookie Davis Mills will face Carolina Panthers with Tyrod Taylor in a hamstring injury on Thursday night in the Houston Texans quarterback.
Coach David Curry announced the decision on Tuesday, saying Taylor would be inactive. Curry said the Texans plans to promote Jeff Driskel from the practice team and back up Mills to the Panthers (2-0).
Taylor was injured in the first half of Houston’s 31-21 defeat to Cleveland on Sunday and did not return after half-time. Mills, a third-round pick from Stanford, took over and threw 102 yards with a touchdown and passcut.
Deshaun Watson had no option to trigger Taylor’s injury after Curry said he would be inactive in Thursday’s game as well as the first two games on Monday. Watson is listed as inactive / unrelated to injury after 22 women filed proceedings for sexual assault or harassment after his trade request.
Curry said Tuesday that he had no further details about Taylor’s injury and did not know how long he would go out. The Texans (1-1) said he could consider signing another quarterback next week if Taylor was away.
