Target ends negotiations to take over the vacant Macy’s at Water Tower Place

Chicago — After all, the target doesn’t move to the Magnificent Mile’s Water Tower Place.

Aldo.Brian Hopkins (District 2) said Chicago Tribune He believes that negative publicity was a factor.

Hopkins told the Chicago Tribune that talks with the mall’s owner, Brookfield Properties, had ended, but did not provide specific details as to why the decision was made.

Earlier this year, there was talk of the target moving to a space previously occupied by Macy’s on Michigan Avenue after the department store closed earlier this year.

Cook County Treasury Secretary Maria Papas told WGN in March Target stores on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Pearson will call the idea “embarrassment” in the city and damage the reputation of wealthy shopping districts.
