Suburban Grayslake Meteorology Student of the Three Killed in the Crash

Chicago (CBS)- The weather forecast community lost three students in the University of Oklahoma’s meteorology in the morning, including a teenager on the outskirts of Chicago.

They were killed on Friday night when a car boarded a seaplane during stormy weather at I-35, north of Oklahoma City. They left the road and returned to the highway, where they were hit by a passing cicada.

The deceased students include the 19-year-old Grayslake Gavin Short.

The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, dedicated a balloon launch on Saturday night in honor of the students.

The OU Meteorology Department calls it an “unthinkable broken heart.” They encourage everyone on campus to come together with kind and heartfelt support for each other.
