Members of the Madrid-Spain Davis Cup team tested positive for the coronavirus and were quarantined the day before the first match, the International Tennis Federation said Thursday.
The ITF did not reveal who was positive for Spain, consisting of Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreño Busta, Albert Ramos Vinolas, Feliciano Lopez and Marcel Granolars. The team captain is Sergiburgera.
The ITF said those who tested positive would remain quarantined under the supervision of the Spanish Tennis Federation.
The rest of the Spanish team members each took a new PCR test, but it wasn’t immediately clear if the results were already back.
Spain is the defending champion of the Davis Cup finals in Madrid, Innsbruck and Turin. The first day of the competition was Thursday in all three cities.
The match in Austria is played without fans due to the coronavirus pandemic. The capacity is 60% in Turin and 75% in Madrid.
