Cape Canaveral, Florida (AP) — Northrop Grumman’s latest space station delivery includes pizza for seven people.
The company’s Cygnus freighter soared from the east coast of Virginia on Tuesday. You should arrive at the International Space Station on Thursday.
The £ 8,200 (3,700 kg) cargo includes fresh apples, tomatoes and kiwi, as well as a pizza kit and cheese smorgås board for seven astronauts.
Also in flight: a new solar wing mounting bracket to be launched in the orbital laboratory next year, a material that simulates the dust and dirt of the moon used to create items from space station 3D printers, in France called blobs. Dictyostelium for educational experiments, an infrared detector intended as a prototype for future tracking satellites.
This is Northrop Grumman’s 16th supply to NASA and the heaviest load ever. The company’s Antares rocket lifted the capsule from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.
“From Aloha to SS Ellison Onizuka,” Northrop Grumman said minutes before the lift-off via launch control. The capsule is named after Onizuka of Hawaii, the first Asian-American who died in the 1986 Challenger launch disaster.
SpaceX, another NASA shipper, will carry the cargo within a few weeks.
The space station is currently home to three Americans, two Russians, one French, and one Japanese.
