The SIU Women’s Basketball Team is aiming for the first sweep of their annual Iowa Road Trip during the six-year Saturday visit to northern Iowa for the 2:00 pm Missouri Valley Conference Contest.
Saluki (8-5, 3-0) held the Bulldog to a point in the second half of the 16th with a 60-49 victory on Drake on Thursday night. Mackenzie Silvey led with 20 points and 12 rebounds, passing Lysonda Napier in second place on the program’s best-ever scoring list.
SIU’s defense allowed only 50.3 points per game in the first three conference games. Drake was nearly 30 points below average, only 5 out of 29 in the second half.
Saluki also scored 17 points from Gabby Walker and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Abbey Brockmeier in her 28th double-double career. Silvey is the team’s top scorer at 16.2ppg, followed by Brockmeyer at 15.5 and 10.2 rebounds, followed by Walker at 12.1ppg.
SIU will return in two games next week. We will face league leader Illinois State University on Thursday night and Bradley on January 22nd.
