Sacramento (CBS13) – On Thursday, the Sacramento police station released a video of an attempted murder of a police officer this week.
On Wednesday, police officers attempted to pull a stolen car in the Fruit Ridge Road and 65th Avenue areas. The driver was later identified as Ismael Herrera-Mondello, 20 years old.
Herrera-Mondello speeded up and led a chase that lasted nearly 10 minutes. A video from the chase shows a driver firing a few bullets at the police and attacking multiple homes nearby, so a policeman tracks a stolen vehicle through a residential area. It shows that it is.
The car chase ends on a dead end, and aerial video captures an armed Herrera-Mondello hopping fence attempting to invade multiple homes before shooting a glass door into the occupied homes of the area. .. When the suspect entered, the homeowner left the house.
Sacramento police chief Daniel Hahn says the suspect continued to fire several bullets at police officers around the house while an aerial shot of the house was shown in the video.
Eventually, police officers were able to leave the house and contact Herrera-Mondello, who was detained. Police said the suspect did not consider the safety of the area, so wide boundaries were set up in the area and nearby residents were evacuated.
Herrera-Mondello has been charged with multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, robbery, possession of guns, vehicle theft, and pursuit-related crimes. There were two guns on the scene.
No police officers or civilians have been injured in this incident. Sacramento police said Herrera-Mondello was slightly injured while invading the house.
“This case highlights how general police contacts can escalate into life-threatening situations for police officers and communities. Under these dangerous circumstances. We are grateful to have members of our department who bravely serve our community, and the technology available to our officers, which has been able to deliver the best possible results to all involved. I am also grateful for the training and equipment, “said Hahn. “Thanks to the external agencies that responded to support our department. We were able to work together to resolve this potentially fatal case.”
