Rockies defeated Cubs with nigthcap for doubleheader split

Ryan McMahon hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning as the Colorado Rockies visited won a doubleheader split against the Chicago Cubs after winning 13-10 on Wednesday.

Connor Joe hit the Grand Slam and Brendan Rodgers drove in five runs for homered and the Rocky Mountains.

Chicago dragged 8-5 with 2 ons and 1 out in the final frame of the regulation 7 innings game. Ian Happ then forced an additional inning with a three-run home run from Daniel Bard near the Rockies.

Both teams scored the 8th run before scoring the 9th. McMahon broke his tie in a two-run explosion from Jake Jewel (0-2).

With three hits, Rogers added a lead in Colorado’s two-run double and lost 5-2 in the first game.

The Rocky Mountains used eight reliefs in Game 2 behind the starter German Marquez. This includes Ben Bowden (3-2), who threw 11/3 scoreless innings for victory.

Colorado struck early when Joe drew a lead-off walk in his first inning and Rogers fired a 389-foot blast from Justin Steele.

The Cubs responded with five runs in the second inning, sending nine batters to the plate against Marquez, scoring five singles and doubles.

The Rocky Mountains regained their fourth lead after Trevor Megil replaced Steel with two ons and two outs.

Megil defeated Pinch Hitter Charlie Blackmon on the pitch and raised Joe. Joe hit a 3-1 fastball in the center field for his ninth Grand Slam of the Rocky Mountains this season.

Colorado widened the lead in 6th place when pinch hitter Rio Ruiz doubled his home run with two outs. After Joe hit the pitch, Lewis came to score Rogers’ single in the middle.

Marquez allowed five runs with seven hits in three innings in the Rocky Mountains, which he won in six of the last nine games. He hit three without taking a walk.

Robinson Chirinos drove in two runs for the Cubs, who lost 22 of the last 28 games.

Steele has 5 hits and 4 runs in 32/3 innings. He took two steps and hit five.
