Red Star chases NWSL playoff spots for a decisive victory

Chicago – One of the franchise’s greatest pride over the last 50 years has been its ability to find a way to the postseason.

Since the 2015 season, the Chicago Red Stars have been qualified for the playoffs and have played the playoffs five times in a row. The COVID-19 pandemic reduced the 2020 season to summer tournaments and then shortened the fall league schedule, so I didn’t have the opportunity to do so.

However, the chance of winning the sixth straight title is a huge opportunity for clubs that have two games left during the season. And it was a great help at SeatGeek Stadium on Wednesday night.

The club took the lead with Kealia Watt’s 6-minute goal and remained strong after defeating Orlando Pride 1-0.

The match started on October 2nd, which was originally scheduled. The allegations against North Carolina College head coach Paul Riley have been postponed after being outlined in a report from Athletic. He was eventually fired, leading to NWSL changes, including the resignation of League Commissioner Lisa Baird.

Earning these three points is important to the club as they continue to chase the final playoff spot in tight races with Washington Spirit, Houston Dash, Courage and NJ / NY Gotham FC. Currently, Red Star is in fifth place with 32 points, Houston is above it with the same total, and North Carolina occupies the last spot.

Washington is third with 33 points and NJ / NY is 29 points, outside of the postseason.

The Rory Dames team will need to do business in the last two games to secure the playoff spot, starting with the final home match of the regular season with Kansas City at 7pm on Saturday. The Red Stars will then end the season on Friday, October 29th in the fight against Orlando.
