Rangers need to make Shohei Ohtani the best to wipe out the Angels | WGN Radio 720

Last weekend, Shohei Ohtani hit 100 home runs and set a milestone. On Wednesday night, the Best Player Award will make him feel his presence on the mound.

Otani (3-2, 2.78 ERA) will start his seventh season in the Series Finale with the Texas Rangers, the host of Arlington, Texas. The Rangers sweep with Dane Dunning (1-2, 4.06) on the mound.

The angels are looking for Otani to help save the series. On Tuesday night, Texas rebounded with seven runs in the eighth inning, beating the Angels 10-5.

Mike Trout was a triple shy on Tuesday’s cycle. With seven home runs, the Angels came forward 4-3. However, Corey Seager, who hit a home run in the first inning, doubled to open eight innings, and the Rangers interrupted the game.

Otani and Dunning met earlier this season in Texas on April 14th. The Rangers won 10-5 that day and Dunning wasn’t involved in the decision. He did 32/3 innings and gave up two runs.

Otani was tagged as defeated and gave up 6 runs in 32/3 innings.

Since then, Otani has earned three earned runs in the final four starts.

Otani made the news with a blow last week. In Auckland on Saturday, he connected with his 100th MLB home run and joined Hideki Matsui (175) and Ichiro Suzuki (117) to become the third Japanese-born MLB player to reach the milestone of the century.

“Hundreds are big numbers and I’m proud of them,” Otani said through an interpreter. “But it’s early in the season. I just want to keep it going. I had a lot of injuries and surgery early in my career, but I got it back. I am planning.”

Dunning has been defeated by the Red Sox on his final start. In 5 2/3 innings, he allowed 5 earned runs.

This is an important match for the Rangers to play against the top two teams in the American League West. The Angels and Houston Astros are at the top of the division. After the end of this home series, Texas will head to Houston in three games. After that, two games will be played at Angels.

“If you’re going to win the division, this stretch is important,” said Rangers manager Chris Woodward.

Defensively, the Rangers have stepped up with center-fielder Adolis Garcia, especially in the outfield.

“It’s one of the best (defensive outfields) in the game, if not the best,” Woodward said on his pre-match radio show. “It’s a big plus for us, especially she knows how many outfields she has to cover. That’s definitely an advantage for us.”

Angels first baseman Jared Walsh was not a starting member of Texas South Poe Taylor Hearn on Tuesday night. After Duffy was upset by a collision with Garcia on first base, he replaced Matt Duffy with eight innings on first base. Walsh hit the Rangers 26 games in a row in his ninth game.
