How many Illinoisans are opting for new booster shots?

In a Sept. 23 statement, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported that state medical professionals have administered 341,000 bivalent booster injections since federal approval.

The IDPH also reported that the state’s daily vaccination rate is at its highest level since the spike in Omicron cases in early February.

“Illinois is fortunate to have a large supply of bivalent boosters. We highly recommend it,” said Dr. Sameer Vohra, director of IDPH, in a statement. “These vaccines are especially important for people who are more susceptible to severe disease, such as people over 50, those with underlying medical conditions, and those who are immunocompromised.”

COVID-19 in Illinois and St. Clair County

According to the CDC, the case rate in St. Clair County fell 9.57% over the past week, the positive test rate dropped 0.99%, and the testing rate jumped 17.3%.

As of Thursday night, the IDPH reported 1,069 people in Illinois had been hospitalized with COVID-19, including 147 in the ICU and 40 on ventilators.
