One was killed and four were injured in a mass shooting at the Back of the Yard.Crowd fights police on the scene

Chicago (CBS) -Five people were shot dead at the Back of the Yard on Tuesday afternoon, one of whom died.

Chicago Police Department Deering (9th) District Cmdr. Don Jerome said police officers were called at the intersection of 48th Avenue and Ada Street on Tuesday afternoon for reports that three people had been shot dead.

According to Jerome, only five people were actually shot. One died, two were in danger, and two were stable.

Police said all the victims were standing outside when the stolen red Mazda was pulled up – and an unspecified number of people went out, pulled guns, and shot them all.

A 19-year-old man was shot on the left side of his body and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was declared dead.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in his left shoulder, arm, face, and ankle and was reported in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center. An 18-year-old man was shot in his right hip and left knee and was taken to Mount Sinai in crisis. Another 18-year-old man was shot in his right foot and taken to the UofC Medical Center in good condition. Another 16-year-old boy suffered a scratch on his right ankle and refused treatment.

At the scene, police officers immediately began taking steps to save the lives of the victims, but only a hostile crowd appeared and began to fight the police officers, Jerome said.

10-1 was called for an emergency backup from all over the city to restore order.

According to Jerome, the two were arrested for fighting officers on the scene. Officers are not injured.

Meanwhile, the shooter escaped from the scene with a red Mazda. And it crashed three blocks west on 48th Avenue and Marshfield Avenue. In the Chopper 2 video, after a car crashes into a fence, it’s up on the sidewalk, with a long gun on it.

Jerome said three guns were recovered – two in the car and one on the scene.

According to Jerome, a SWAT team was called in to search for the suspected shooter, but no one was detained late Tuesday.

This scene was too dangerous for CBS2’s Asal Rezaei and her crew to get stuck. They heard some gunshots while collecting videos there on Tuesday midday.

At some point, the SWAT team captain came and told the news crew to cover it.

According to Jerome, the shootings are likely the result of a historic gangster feud, and the members of the gang involved are not targeting the community.
