Oak Park police officer shot suspect after traffic stopped on Harlem Avenue on the Eisenhower highway

Forest Park, Illinois (WLS)-Police said both Oak Park police officers and suspects were shot dead after traffic stopped on Harlem Avenue on the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday morning.

Police said Oak Park police were assisting Forest Park police during a traffic outage around 7 am.

Preliminary investigations showed that the driver of the car was stopped when police said the driver had stepped down and began firing.

Police said an Oak Park police officer fired and injured both the police officer and the suspect.

Both were transferred to Maywood’s Loyola Medical Center for treatment after suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed Harlem Avenue between Harrison Street and Jackson Boulevard. The exit ramp on the I-290 has also been blocked for police investigation.
