Bet on CM Punk Being the AEW Star of the Night

Are you All Elite? These days you never know who will join All Elite Wrestling (AEW) with one surprise after another. You can bet on more surprises taking place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Wednesday February 2.

That’s when AEW film their Dynamite and Rampage TV shows and all eyes will be on Chicago’s very own CM Punk. After many years in wrestling companies such as Ring of Honor (ROH) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Punk too a long sabbatical from the wrestling business.

No one was going to bet on him never appearing for another wrestling company again. Those who placed wagers on him having a successful MMA career weren’t backing a winner. Punk appeared in movies, tried some commentary and presenting but then last year, Punk was back in the ring.

He joined AEW seven years after leaving WWE. Anyone who went to Rampage: ‘The First Dance’ event held at the United Centre in Chicago on August 20 will never forget that night. Punk made his return and even without wrestling, the 15,000 fans (a record attendance for AEW) went crazy for him.

Punk isn’t in the running for an AEW title at present. He probably doesn’t need a belt; the fans love him so much. However, you can bet that one day he will go after the AWE World title and sportsbooks will fancy him becoming champion. Sportsbooks do give odds on AEW matches. Punk has had matches against wrestlers such as Darby Allin (that was his big comeback bout) and Eddie Kingston. Recent weeks have seen him team up with Allin and the legend that is Sting. That six-man tag was part of the feud that has been going on between Punk and MJF.

Speaking in December at a C2E2 event in Chicago, Punk talked about possibly fighting MJF. He believes it’s a match everyone wants to see. Now it looks as if that match is just around the corner. They are scheduled to face each other one-on-one for the first time in Chicago next Wednesday. The advice is to take some earplugs to this event, the crowd is going to be very loud when Punk makes his appearance.

That’s not all that you can look forward to on February 2. Also announced has been a tag match between PAC and El Zero Miedo against The House of Black.  Brody King has just joined AEW to team up with Malakai Black.  Could more members of the House of Black be revealed in Chicago?

The FTW Championship is expected to be on the line on this show. Ricky Starks – who also does some commentary work for the company – takes on former ROH champion Jay Lethal. There’s bad blood between this pair and the tensions will reach fever pitch in Chicago.

There are plenty of former WWE wrestlers in AEW. A recent acquisition is Ruby Soho, who wrestled as Ruby Riott in the past. Her debut in AEW took place at the All Out show held in Chicago on September 5 last year. Soho was the ‘Joker’ in the Casino Battle Royale match and won that to get a title shot against Dr. Britt Baker (a real-life dentist) but failed to win the belt.

January saw her lose to Jade Cargill in the final of the AEW TBS Championship tournament. No titles so far then but a win over former AEW Women’s Champion Nyla Rose in Chicago will push her up the rankings. Betting on her winning the title sooner or later looks a good wager to make.

An AEW show is never one where you can safely predict what is going to happen. There is always something brewing in this company. Jon Moxley has just made his return to the company. He’s another wrestler that puts you in danger of going deaf when he makes his ring entrance. Could there be a feud between Moxley and Bryan Danielson be on the horizon?  More developments on this possible feud may well happen in Chicago.

As mentioned earlier in this article, there is a steady stream of new arrivals in AEW. The latest to become ‘All Elite’ is Danhausen. The former ROH wrestler is known for his demonic look and behaviour. Will he be shooting lightning from his fingers or do the Pee-Wee dance in Chicago? It’ll be interesting to see how AEW use him.

You can bet on this being a fascinating night of AEW action. Another recent acquisition Mercedes Martinez is already feuding with Thunder Rosa, what will happen between them in Chicago? There’s also the up-and-coming star, Hook. Whatever happens, CM Punk will be the star of the night.
