Lead-off: Braves Fried’s LA Homecoming in NLCS Game 5 | WGN Radio 720

Let’s see what’s happening around today’s majors:

All eyes of LA

In the only playoff game of the night, the Atlanta Braves will be able to win a pennant for the first time in 22 years by winning Game 5 of the NL Championship Series at Dodger Stadium.

Max Fried will start for his hometown Braves while Los Angeles plans a bullpen match. Atlanta is leading 3-1 in the best seven playoffs, as it was last season.

A year ago, the Dodgers dragged 0-2 and 1-3 against Atlanta in the NLCS, winning three consecutive games at the Texas Neutral Site on their way to the World Series title.

Los Angeles has won six consecutive postseason elimination games through 2020.

Fried, 27, was born in Santa Monica, California and attended Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles. So how many tickets did he ask his family and friends?

“That’s a decent amount. I don’t know the exact number, but I had to request additional tickets,” Fried said.

Left-handed allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings in Game 1. He was 1-0 at 1.50 ERA at the start of the two playoffs this year and hit 14 batters in 12 innings without a walk.

During the regular season, Freed went 14-7 with 3.04 ERA.

One win away

Jordan Alvarez and the Houston Astros are heading home, leading Boston 3-2 in the AL Championship Series.

After the holidays, the Astros will win Game 6 on Friday night, ending their second trip to the World Series in three years.

Nathan Eovaldi, who won Game 2 but lost in Game 4, will play in the Red Sox. Houston manager Dusty Baker said he hadn’t decided on a starter.

Boston needs a win to force a decisive seventh game on Saturday.

Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale said, “We’re back exactly where we wanted. We were 1-1.” “Returning to Houston is not a good place. I can’t deny that, but the team has won two games in a row in the playoffs. We think we can do it again. ”

Alvarez scored three RBIs and three RBIs, including Homer, to help Houston win 9-1 in Game 5 at Fenway Park on Wednesday.

Towards October

Atlanta will be free of pitcher Huascar Ynoa for the rest of the postseason.

Inoa was removed from the post-season roster after being scratched by shoulder irritation from the planned start of the Braves against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series.

Inoa was initially uncomfortable on Monday but believed he could pitch, said manager Brian Snitker.

“He came early, got medical treatment, went out, caught a bit, and it was really tight,” Snicker said. “We are not going to seize the opportunity.”

MLB has approved Inoa’s roster replacement, and left-handed Dylan Lee has been added to the series. If the Braves move forward, Inoa is not eligible to return to the World Series.

Right-handed Jesse Chavez played the opening round at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night. Chavez pitched to the Dodgers in 2016.

Make changes

Andy Haynes played as a Milwaukee Brewers batter coach after losing to the Atlanta Braves in a four-game NL Division Series, scoring a total of six runs.

Brewers announced Wednesday that it would not renew Haynes’ contract. Batter coach Jacob Cruz is also said to be free to explore other options while Brewers is looking for a replacement for his last three seasons batter coach Haynes.

Medical update

Mets’ right-handed Carlos Carrasco has recovered from surgery to remove bone fragments from his pitching elbow and will resume baseball activities this winter.

Dr. David Archek, Mets’ medical director, performed surgery at a special surgery hospital in New York on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Carasco was acquired by New York from Cleveland in January with shortstop Francisco Lindeau. He tore the right hamstring during spring training and didn’t make his season debut until July 30th.

Carasco started 12 times and went 1-5 with 6.04 ERA.

He has signed a $ 12 million deal next season, including a $ 14 million team option and a $ 3 million acquisition in 2023. If he throws 170 innings next season and turns out to be healthy at the beginning of the 2023 season, the option is guaranteed.
