Sheboygan, Wisconsin (AP) — Ryder Cup latest, US-Europe golf showdown (always local):
Bryson DeChambeau said he had a “great” conversation with Brooks Koepka and downplayed the concept of friction between the two towards the Ryder Cup.
DeChambeau, who has largely avoided media interviews for the past few weeks, spoke to reporters at Whistling Straits on Tuesday to preview the Ryder Cup.
Tensions between him and Koepka, many of which have been recorded on social media over the past few months, are primarily “caused by many external factors, not just two of us.”
DeChambeau said he had a great conversation with Koepka at the Tour Championship earlier this month and had dinner in Wisconsin on Monday.
“There may be something fun to move forward here, but I won’t talk much about it,” he said.
American captain Steve Stricker has also downplayed the feud and said it was “no problem” for the match on Friday.
To start Ryder Cup Week, Europe has produced a video that inspires players to remind them of the selected company they belong to.
The video points out that in the cup’s 94-year history, only 164 players represented Europe (and England and Ireland before the team expanded).
By comparison, the video shows that 5,780 people climbed Everest, 570 were in space, 445 won the World Cup in football, and 225 men won the major golf championships. ..
“You are sitting here as one of a few lucky people,” says the narrator. “But you can only stand up and count if you know the true value of your number.”
Below are the Pantheons of the greats of the European Ryder Cup, including Jose Maria Orazabal, Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie and Tony Jacklin.
This year’s team includes Lee Westwood (No. 118), Sergio Garcia (120), and rookie Bernd Wisberger, who is currently the last entry on the list at 164.
Europe will begin defending the Cup at Whistling Straits on Friday. The team was on a practice round course on Tuesday afternoon.
