In Covid’s case, a suburban high school is suddenly closed for two weeks and students return to e-learning.

A high school in the southern suburbs will cancel face-to-face learning for the next two weeks after a student tests positive for Covid-19.

Parents of Lich Township High School soccer team students received an email around 10 pm Wednesday informing them of a positive Covid case in a soccer program. The email asked players to take a test before class on Thursday morning.

Porsha Mazzarri said he had been tested and saw the information when his son went to pick up the results.

“When he went to see his results, he noticed that his teammates’ results were positive,” she said. “My son warned me that someone was positive on the test and roaming freely … I’m afraid of my child’s safety. I’m afraid.”

The mother of some teammates said students who tested positive during Thursday’s test were allowed to stay in school, but the district disagrees with that claim. The district said that anyone with a positive test for WGN News was immediately removed.

“They say they follow the CDC guidelines. Where? How? What about when the classes, buses and cafeterias are crowded,” Mazzarri said. “It can’t happen.”

The district sent an email to all families late Thursday night, announcing two or more positive tests. The district also closed the building to students for the next two weeks.

Families with students identified as close contact with those who tested positive received an additional letter.

This letter informs that two or more individuals at Rich Township High School tested positive for COVID-19. We work with the Cook County Health Department to quickly identify and monitor individuals in close contact with COVID-19-positive individuals and prevent further spread within schools and communities. Close contact is an unmasked person who has been within 3 feet of a COVID-positive individual for more than 15 minutes. Since the protocol has already been implemented, we were able to identify the protocol in close contact with COVID-positive individuals.

Under the guidance of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Illinois State Board of Health (IDPH), and the local health department, Rich Township High School District 227 will suspend face-to-face guidance and all activities from Friday, October. Decided. 1 to Thursday, October 14, 2021.

In preparation for distance learning, Friday, October 1, 2021 is considered an emergency school closure day. The district will conduct synchronous distance learning during the quarantine period, which will take effect on Monday, October 4, 2021. We will return to full face-to-face instruction on Monday, October 18, 2021. We are aware that the quarantine must end on Friday, October 15, 2021. However, due to the parent-teacher meeting, this day is a non-participation day for students. Staff will return on Friday, October 15, 2021.

Parents told WGN News that they were dissatisfied with not having time to prepare to return to the remote.

“It’s very worrisome,” said Monique Fen. “What does it look like? Where do they log in? Who do they talk to if they have questions?”

The district makes the following statement to the media:

Rich Township High School District 227 will be closed for 14 days for individuals who test positive for COVID-19. The district will conduct synchronous distance learning during the 14-day quarantine period, which will take effect on Monday, October 4, 2021, and will return to full face-to-face instruction on Monday, October 18, 2021.
We were notified of individuals who tested positive on September 29, 2021 according to the Covid-19 protocol. Since the protocol was already in place, we were able to quickly identify potential individuals. We will continue to work with the Cook County Health Department to monitor other individuals in close contact with COVID-19-positive individuals and prevent further spread within schools and communities.
In accordance with IPHD guidelines, all school buildings and district offices will be closed for thorough cleaning.
