SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — The Illinois Senate has passed legislation focused on protecting the rights of Illinoisans to reproductive and gender-affirming health care.
Senate Speaker Don Harmon (D-Oak Park) issued the following statement after the bill passed the Senate:
“When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it sent a clear message that it is willing to ignore precedent and withdraw previously granted rights.
“In Illinois, we believe in women and their right to make health and body decisions.
“The legislation passed today cements our position against current and future attacks from those who seek to turn back the clock and reverse progress.”
This bill is an amendment to the bill that was first passed on January 6, so it will move to the Illinois House of Representatives for reapproval and then head to Governor JB Pritzker’s desk for final approval.
