Greta Gerwig Found Ryan Gosling Ideal for the Ken Role After Watching Him in This ‘SNL’ Sketch

After watching Ryan Gosling’s performance in a sketch during his hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live,” director Greta Gerwig had an epiphany: he was the perfect fit for the role of Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie.

During an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, Gosling shared the amusing backstory. He recalled a particularly silly Weekend Update sketch where he portrayed “a guy who just joined SoHo house or something.” One of his memorable lines from the sketch was, “Sgt. Blackout reporting for booty.” Little did he know that this comedic performance would catch Gerwig’s attention and lead her to envision him as Ken.

Reflecting on the unlikely turn of events, Gosling remarked, “Who would have thought that Greta Gerwig would watch that and go, ‘That’s my Ken.'”

As Gosling gears up to host “Saturday Night Live” for the third time, he admitted feeling a bit more nervous than his previous appearances, knowing the impact his performances could have on unexpected opportunities.

Aside from his SNL hosting duties, Gosling also spoke to Fallon about his upcoming film “The Fall Guy.” He described the movie’s plot, which follows a stuntman, played by himself, as he assists his ex-girlfriend, portrayed by Emily Blunt, in finding a missing movie star for her directorial debut. Distributed by Universal Pictures, a member of the NBCUniversal family, “The Fall Guy” promises to be an exciting project for Gosling fans.

For those eager to see Gosling’s comedic chops in action once again, tune in to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, where he will host alongside musical guest Chris Stapleton. The show will air live at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
